Monday-
Focus- Spelling, Vocabulary, Grammar, Creative Writing, and Literature
 
Objective- Students will be able to improve their spelling, vocabulary, grammar, creative writing skills, and literature
 
Plan/Procedure-
1.          Spelling Test Lesson Five
2.          Vocabulary Test Lesson Five
3.          Spelling- introduce new words in lesson six –pages 42-43
4.          Literature- Introduce “The Sign of the Beaver” by Elizabeth George Speare
 
Assessment/Assignment-
1.          Grade Spelling Test Five
2.          Grade Vocabulary Test Five
3.          Read page 1- Synopsis, Read page 2- Background Information, Read page 3-about the author before class on Tuesday
 
Tuesday-
Focus- Spelling, Vocabulary, Grammar, Creative Writing, and Literature
 
Objective- Students will be able to improve their spelling, vocabulary, grammar, creative writing skills, and literature
 
Plan/Procedure-
1.          Spelling- complete lesson 6A and 6B on pages 44-45
2.          Literature- Discuss synopsis and the background information for “The Sign of the Beaver”
3.          Pre-reading Activities for discussion-
a.          Have students discuss in groups their own experiences with having to “rough it.”
b.          Research the New England colonies. What was the climate? What was a typical lifestyle for a family of settlers, including housing, food, protection, social life, entertainment, farming practices?
c.          Find some information on the impact colonization had on the Indians, particularly in New England. Were they mostly peaceful or mostly hostile toward each other?
 
Assessment/Assignment-
1.          Spelling- Check lesson 6A and 6B
2.          Class Participation
3.          Homework- read chapters 1 and 2 for Wednesday
 
Wednesday-
Focus-Spelling, Vocabulary, Grammar, Creative Writing, and Literature
 
Objective- Students will be able to improve their spelling, vocabulary, grammar, creative writing, and literature
 
Plan/Procedure-
1.          Spelling- complete lesson 6 C and 6D on pages 45-47
2.          Literature- orally read and discuss chapters 1 and 2
3.          Go over the vocabulary list
 
Assessment/Assignment-
1.          Spelling- check 6C and 6D
2.          Homework – reach chapters 3-4-5 for Thursday
 
Thursday-
Focus- Spelling, Vocabulary, Grammar, Creative Writing, and Literature
 
Objective- Students will be able to improve their spelling, vocabulary, grammar, creative writing, and literature
 
Plan/Procedure-
1.          Spelling –review lesson 6A-B-C-D
2.          Spelling baseball game for review
3.          Orally read and discuss chapters 3-4-5
 
Assessment/Assignment-
1.          Study for spelling/vocabulary test 6 for Monday
2.          Class discussion- chapters 3-4-5
